REGIONAL ENERGY
DEMAND ANALYSIS PORTAL
(REDAP)
ENERGY DEMAND. UNDERSTOOD.
The rollout of Smart Energy Systems across the European building and transportation sectors is often delayed by the complexity behind planning and investing in these systems.
Our consortium aims to help accelerate the rollout of SES (incl. district heating, building retrofits, and transport electrification infrastructure) by providing actionable insights, clarity, and direction to decision-makers. To do so, the digital reporting and monitoring system will be developed and standardised by multidisciplinary partners in Ireland, Sweden, and Austria. It will combine powerful computing and mapping technology, authoritative data (incl. building energy performance data), and an advanced mobility energy demand analysis methodology.
Over the course of this two-year project, the REDAP consortium aims to inform the planning efforts of 'front-line' energy planning experts ('need-owners'): Codema, Dublin's energy agency (Ireland), the City of Gothenburg Council (Sweden), and Energieagentur der Regionen (Austria).

News & Updates

Project Partners Meeting - Vienna, Austria
26th & 27th February 2020
REDAP consortium partners from Ireland, Austria and Sweden met at the Austrian Institute of Technology to discuss the upcoming building and mobility workpackages deliverables. The partners also met with Otmar Schlager from the Austrian Need-owner, Energieagentur der Regionen (Energy Agency of the Regions) in order to learn about the frontline energy issues facing stakeholders from the Waidhofen an der Thaya in the Austrian state of Lower Austria.

Project Partners Meeting - Dublin, Ireland
24th January 2020
On 24th January, Irish partners Codema, ICHEC (NUIG) and Spatial Outlook Ltd. welcomed representatives from project partners Austrian Institute of Technology and Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden) to Dublin for a very informative project meeting. During the meeting, the partners further refined the requirements of the energy demand analysis system which will be developed on behalf of the project Need-Owners. In particular, this centred around the estimation of energy demand from the transport and mobility sectors. More news and updates to follow.

Irish Energy Research Conference
20th November 2019
REDAP consortium represented at the inaugural National Energy Research and Policy Conference held in Dublin on 20th November.
During the ERA-Net SES hosted side-event, REDAP project manager, Spatial Outlook presented on the consortium's international vision for this energy demand analysis Monitoring and Reporting tool. Co-presenters and audience members included representatives from IBM, the SEAI, the Swedish Energy Agency, and the Austrian Ministry of Transport. Read more about the conference here.

Project Commencement
14th November 2019
Following detailed preparations by project partners in Sweden, Austria, and Ireland, the REDAP research has commenced.
Please subscribe for news, updates and insights as the project progresses.
2019 Smart Energy Systems Conference
7-9th Oct, Namur, Belgium
10th October 2019
During the Smart Energy Systems Conference 2019, held in the Belgian town of Namur from 7th-9th October, the REDAP consortium was represented by partners Codema and Spatial Outlook. In advance of the project kick-off, this conference offered the REDAP consortium an excellent opportunity to network with the ERA-Net management, funding agency representatives, and other current (and potential future) project managers.

UCD Sustainable Smart Cities & Communities Symposium
4th December 2019
REDAP consortium was represented at the sold-out UCD Sustainable Smart Cities & Communities Symposium which was held on 4th December.
REDAP project manager, Spatial Outlook presented at the parallel session entitle 'IoT, Artificial Intelligence and integrated services for smart cities and communities'. Co-presenters at the symposium included representatives from representatives from the SEAI, DG Energy, MIT Senseable City Lab, Codema, Smart Dublin, and US tech startup BigBelly Bins.

The REDAP project is supported by the European Research Area Network (ERA-Net) Smart Energy Systems fund. ERA-Net is a body which facilitates exchange between experts in the field of smart energy systems. The 2018 fund supports Research, Development & Innovation (RDI) initiatives contributing to:
“Develop Integrated Local and Regional Energy Systems. Such Systems make it possible and host efficiently provide, to utilise high shares of renewables, up to and beyond 100% in the local or regional supply by 2030. They enable regions and local communities to realise their high sustainable energy ambitions. Such systems shall provide tailor-made solutions that meet the local and regional requirements and demand. At the same time, they shall link to a secure and resilient European energy system, enabling the participation in inter-regional exchange of energy as well as in sharing responsibility to maintain the overall system, considering a sustainable use of local and global resources”.
