Regional Energy Demand Analysis Portal

Energy Challenge > Digital Opportunity

In times of uncertainty, digital insights unlock value for decision-makers.

Efforts to modernise energy systems are often delayed by a lack of information on regional energy demand. This includes district heating, building refurbishment and upgrade, and transport electrification projects which require consistent, accurate and timely data on the characteristics (i.e. size, type, distribution) of related demand.

REDAP will help regions to overcome this challenge by providing actionable insights, clarity, and direction to energy-system policy-makers, planners and delivery agents.

During this research project, multidisciplinary partners from three countries will develop and standardise a digital monitoring and reporting system which can be used across distinct regions and aligned with existing decision-making processes.

Doing so will entail working with a network of front-line energy planning experts ('Need-Owners') who will utilise REDAP to make decisions which will affect the lives of millions of citizens. This includes Codema, Dublin's energy agency (Ireland), the City of Gothenburg Council (Sweden), and the Energy Agency of the Regions (Austria).

REDAP Overview

A digital system to inform regional and transport planning, policy and development

To collate and integrate a range of diverse datasets and make it actionable.

Urban Energy demand data to inform the targetted rollout of Smart Energy Systems.

Develop a better understanding of how energy is being used, leads to greater cost-savings and efficiencies.

Energy Demand Analysis Case Study

Codema, Dublin's Energy Agency works with the four local government authorities in the greater Dublin area, a region with a population of 1.5 million people. Over recent years, Codema has been performing energy demand analysis to inform policy, planning and investment.

“The overlap of other geographic datasets allows insights into the energy sector that are not available anywhere else, and enables an understanding of the socio-economic patterns of the local energy landscape.”
